| Aftermarket Security Problem I hope that somebody out there has some suggestions. My well used '92 K1500 has an aftermarket security system installed that has not given me problems for the 5 years that I have owned the truck. It consists of a red LED with a switch on the back that is attached just under the dash. 2 wires lead from this LED and switch to a black box under the dash that has an antenna on it and a large connector with about 6-8 wires. The wires appear to lead up the steering column, possibly to the ignition switch. I have never touched the switch or any part of the system for fear that I would not be able to start the truck and now that has happened. Something has changed and it will not start. The LED blinks and the black box ticks. No combination of switch flipping and key turning that I have been able to come up with has worked. I would like to remove the system but cannot find the other black box that I am sure exists to receive the signals from the one I do know about. None of the parts have a brand name on them or any indication of where they came from. I am currently out of ideas. I need my truck. It has never failed me before. I need to get rid of this system, or find the magic code or process that makes it work. Thanks for any help you can give. |

| there is a slight chance that the alarm is not the cause of your starting problems. if it is the alarm though then there are a few things you can try. since you have already found the ignition kill switch and it has not changed the situation, then i would follow thw wiring to the ignition switch. most likely a wire came loose. the kill switch basicly bridges the gap between the cut ignition wire. ign. wire ........ign. wire ---------.......-------------- ............\...../ .............\.../ ..............\ / ...........kill switch

| the alarm module splices into the purple wire at your ignition switch harness, you will see were they spliced in. reconnect large purple wires together.should start..if your truck is a stick shift ,instead of purple wire, they may have spliced into large yellow wires.....good luck......merry xmas |

| The alarm box might (some brands do) have a cover with a bunch of fuses in it that you can check. Keep all fuses where they are located and don't add fuses where some may be missing

| I would take the box out. those aftermarket alarms are usually installed by twits who do a very bad job. I'd get a service manual with a wiring diagram and go crazy. those alarms only splice into a handful of wires so it won't be too difficult to do.
