Truck dies when I go towards full throttle

93 Chevy Silverado 5.7

Truck has ram air intake. Other than that it is stock as far as I know.

When I press the throttle down from a stop almost to full throttle, it will die. When I keep the pedal down it completely dies. If I let up quickly, it will start running again.

It seems like after it's been driving for a while, it doesn't die. It just feels sluggish. It gets louder when I floor the pedal, but doesn't give much more power (until the tranny kicks down).

Any ideas?

Welcome to the site:
That sounds like a number of different issues that could cause this problem. First a few things come to mind, and that is a restriction. Now tjzz4 made a fine sugestion with regards to fuel. I would probably lean towards this, but before I started major troubleshooting, I would look at the obvious. First I would look at at the possibility of an air restriction. How is the air filter? Any critters decide to make the air box, or air cleaner assembly home?
Probably not where you are going to find your problem, but eliminating simple stuff is still a good start.

The air filter was the first thing I changed. It was nasty. I got a fuel filter, but I have yet to put it in. It feels kind of like that could be the problem (I've had a few filters go bad on my other cars). I'm also going to change the plugs and cap/rotor.

It starts and idles like a new truck. It's just when I push the throttle a little too far, it has these issues.

Thanks for the help guys, keep it comin.

Thats what my truck does I have the 88 305 and I havent found my problem. I have changes my spark plugs and wires, I have used fuel injector cleaner, checked the air filter and changed it, have a new fuel filter too but I am to afraid to change if because the lines are so RUSTED OUT so if that helps you let me know, but I know what you mean about the dying haha, it helps when you pump the gas pedal right (not fast but you know what i mean) is it cold by you?? mine gets a lot better when its above 50 but lately its been really cold no where near 50 so I am S.O.L. Good luck

Actually yes. It seems to do it more so in the mornings/nights when its cold (I even try to let it warm up as much as I can). Sometimes in the daytime. It seems to go away after I drive it for a while, just full throttle response seems weird/hesitant/lacking/etc.

I changed the fuel filter, cap/rotor, and plugs. Also used fuel cleaning treatment and slick50. It DEFINATELY runs alot better, but it still wants to die sometimes.

I wonder if the timing is off or something.

ive been told that too, but yuh it doesnt do it at all when ive driven for about 10 mins, really embarassing though when your on a busy road and people are behind you right? Haha, I had this one guy lay on his horn for a good 10-15 seconds after my truck stalled out in the middle of the intersection and he was mad i guess he thought me might not make the light lol, once i start it back up though i get one good accelleration, but then it starts again for a while....I have so many good stories with this thing

hahaha. I only actually stalled it out once. All other times I'm able to recover before it totally dies. ; )

cporrino you said your air filter was "nasty",
did you check/replace crankcase vent valve on rocker cover ?
A bad one can cause stalling, rough or low idle, oil in air cleaner or sludge in eng.
Check those hoses for the same crud signs, cheap and easy checks.
