| Blown head gasket with lettuce, tomato, and extra mayo I blew the head gasket on my 96 Blazer on 11-22-07. The coolant (water and Dexcool) mixed with the oil and emulsified it. I now have large amounts of light brown emulsified oil with a consistency similar to that of mayonaisse EVERYWHERE. I removed the heads and had them pressure tested, cleaned, and milled. They are now ready to go back on. My problem is the mayo stuck in the lower half of the engine. How do I clean the lower half of the block and get rid of the mayo.? What happens if I cant get it completely out. Can i restart the engine without creating a bigger problem and take it out for an immediate flushing.? My current strategy is to use a hand held garden sprayer full of gasoline or kerosene to flush it down into the oil pan then blow out what areas i can reach with compressed air. I wanted to remove the oil pan during this process but its not easy to remove on this model vehicle (96 Chevy S-10 Blazer) and I would like to avoid it if possible since it involves disconnecting the engine from its mounts and ******* it up three inches. Anybody have any suggestions? |

| i know you don't want to, but you have it tore down this far, might as well rip it out and have it hot tanked at a machine shop. |

| you do that you will not get it 100% cleaned. like mud said you have the hard part out of the way taking the motor out all that it left it the easy part and take it out and clean it the proper way. well you dont evan have to have it hot tanked if you don't want. but you don't want that milk still there and gasoline and kerosene will do harm (soften them) to your all your gaskets. then you will be back at where you started. replacing them all.

| at the very least pull the engine and pop the freeze plugs out and power wash the heck out of it. if those coolant ports clog up you'll just have the same problem in a month or two. |

| Cleaning engine block after a head gasket failure Thanks for the help you guys. I appreciate it. I don't think I can pull the engine. Ive got no puller, no engine stand, and no place to pull it. I would try to blow everything down into the oil pan and then remove the oil pan to get it out but on a 96 Blazer you have to remove the starter, disconnect the engine from its mounts, jack up the engine, move the Pittman arm, etc. etc. , etc. before you can get the oil pan off. I reviewed other forums and some people have had a similar type problem. In those forums some people said they tried running a mixture of new oil with either diesel or transmission fluid for a short time followed by draining and refilling with new oil. One guy said he filled the engine with straight diesel instead of oil, ran it for a little while then drained it, and replaced it with new oil and filter. These seem pretty radical and my not be appropriate for this situation. I may be forced to clean it as best i can then have it immediately flushed out. |

| the tranny fluid may be fesible, maybe a 50/50 mix but i would stay away from the desiel fuel. tranny fluid has an acidic property and people use it to keep the cylinders from rusting in stored engines. but this will only solve the problems with your bearings and valve train. did you plan on using the desiel fuel to clean the coolant system? |

| flush as much out as you with kerosene then run it and change the oil a few times. I've done it a bunch of times with good results. the oil will have some residue for a very long time though.

| i reccomend a product called motor flush, its made by solder seal "gunk". you add a little to your oil, run engine for five minutes and then change your oil and filter. in my truck the oil stayed crystal clean for 9000miles, if you need to flush your cooling sytem too, go to a local shop they should be able to use a coolant flush machine, should only be 1-2 hours labour the cost of the flush kit and maybe a jug of fresh coolant, depending how contaminated it is, good luck! |

| 1st of all it was probaly just a blown intake gasket so you did more work than you needed too. I agree with stumpuller454 and some motor flush a new pcv and an oil change or 2 or can get a Bilstein flush at a repair shop. |
