| I had the same problem with my 1996 4.3 L. I tried everything and finally just removed the water pump and fan as a single unit. Rather than just taking the fan off.

| Snap-on makes a **** of a tool for the job. its designed to be used with an air hammer. works very well. but its possible to do it without it. The belt needs to be on to hold the pulley. Then take a long crescent wrench, or pipe wrench and whack it hard with a hammer to shock it off. the wrench needs to be longer then the fan blades. It usually comes off after 5 hits or so. if you want to get fancy, I think its a 36mm nut, you could by the wrench.. definitly not reverse threads..

| i would wedge a screwdriver in the bolts that hold on the pully(you may hafta unscrew the some) then use a wrench to take off the fan. that works for me. buy the way they are normal right hand threads. |

Job is done Amendum I am the original owner of this 1998 S10 , for just about 10 years ...the water pump lasted 10 years >>> so whos to complain & still has the original exhaust system ........... life is good......... | You need a air chisel . Make sure your belt is tight. Look at the pitch of your fan blade. Simply opposite of crank direction. Press down on the chisel on the opposite way on that side of the nut. I do this all the time works well. You can also take off the belt and use a long belt strap around the pulley and try to break it that way too with wrench the opposite way.
