Thumbs down Y Pipe

Do I need a new Y pipe or could I get away with something else??? New Y pipe is 100- at Napa and the Junkyard so if anyone has any ideas that would be great...

You could try some Saskatchewan Chrome (duct tape). No offense to anyone out there. I think you would have to replace it Ashley.

I'll be replacing my motor in Febuary with a BUICK 350. if you want to wait you can have my old y-pip since I won't be using it.

dont think the police would like that very much, yesterday I had to have the worst luck, I got pulled over 3 times for noise violations, the one guy said it was making children and babies cry....all warnings if I promised to get it fixed in a timely fashion the guy I have doing it wants to replace the manifolds too so that will bring the grand total for parts to about 350 and it needs brakes, I think I might have to let my Tank go I would rather attend college than go broke and stay stupid over a truck haha

the manifolds shouldn't have to be replaced. maybe he wants to take them off to replace the studs. 350 isn't actually that bad of a price for job..

i may be wrong but, i believe that right there would be why your truck runs so bad. you should of had at least an o2 sensor code with that big of a hole.
you gonna trade it in at one of those push, pull or drag deals?

if that means walking? then yes you are correct haha alright 436 talk to me about these manifolds, i tried explaining i can afford the y pipe and thats it, he says that the manifolds 90% of the time will break or be bad when he goes to replace y pipe so, in his mind i need them...i wish it was only the studs because those are only 5.99

The manifolds won't break. the problem is the studs are threaded into the manifolds. the studs usually are so rotted all the threads are gone and they need to be replaced. with a bit of patience one can get the studs out of the manifold with a lot of heat. if a stud snaps in the manifold, then the manifold has to come off for drilling..

Occasionally a bolt hole breaks off the manifold, but its not common at all. the manifold is a nasty chunck of cast iron. I've done the job several times, mostly on chevys, and never had it happen to me. I think he is jerking your chain. while it is a possibilty, its not very likely that it will happen.

either way, I've bought manifolds from junkyards for as little as 5 bucks a peice.

ok ill talk to him again and see why he thinks that they need to be replaced and why both sides, hes not trying to make me spend money trust me, Im lucky enough to have him do the labor for free, so Ill see what he says, and as far as the junkyard goes, I called one up today to get a price on the Y pipe and they want 100 the same as a new one at Napa, and thats taking the part off myself, so ill check on that too its worth a shot I love my truck

Just a suggestion Ashley, maybe you should find a set of manifoldslike this
eBay Motors: EXHAUST MANIFOLD, CHEVY 350/5.7 T.B.I. RIGHT SIDE (item 270201519565 end time Jan-13-08 12:14:19 PST)
For $14.00, you can't go wrong. This seller has the other side too. New manifolds that have good studs are way worth thier weight in gold. Stubborn old manifolds drive me crazy.
The hard part is getting flanges that are in decent shape. Find a set that are usable, and you can make a new crossover for next to nothing, well if your guy can weld.
You have a few options. You can pack a couple "peanut-butter sandwiches", and head out to my shop here in Cali, and I will twist up a new exhaust for you, or I can dig up an old crossover and cut the flanges off, and send them to you. You can have them. Perhaps the guy helping you can weld something together and get you by.
Maybe if the manifolds can be salvaged you can save some dough, but chevy exhaust manifolds are a dime a dozen. Plenty of folks taking them off all of the time.
Would be willing to bet, a muffler shop might have a set laying around, and could be convinced to give up a pair if the right good looking girl came around needing some help.
Could be a good source for the flanges too.
Anyway, good luck, and let me know if you need me to cut those flanges off, and send them out.
