falling on its face

my 2000 3/4 ton w/6.0 will sometimes hesitate terribly when I first hit the gas from a stop. doesnt do it all the time but is getting worse. I have a hard time getting the truck over 10mph when this happens, sounds like its reving but just wont go. once it gets to a certain point (dont know what that point is)it takes off like a bat out of ****. ive been told its faulty ignition coils(to intermittent to confirm), dirty fuel injectors(used 2 cans of bg44k no change), also been told it could be a streched timing chain-truck has 180k on it but i still have a hard time believing this. anybody else heard of this or better yet how i can fix it, seems like my fuel milage is falling off also (ouch!!!). thanks for any help

if you rev the engine in neutral, does it still hesitate?

sounds like maybe a cylender isn't getting spark or fuel. can be caused by plug wires grounding out through the boots instead of the plugs, easy thing to check. look for a black streak in one of the plug wire boots. easy to miss so look close..

in my experience this causes extreme stuttering and loss of power from stop -> ~2000 rpm, and seems to run fine above 2000.

In neutral it doesn't hesitate but I'll check plug wires - thanks for the tip.

My buddies 2000 3/4T had the same issue. It was something in the transmission. When he finally couldn't take it anymore and sent it to the stealership it was around 600.00 to fix can't remember if it was the torque converter or sensors.
They only charged him $40 or $50 when he took it in for the diagnostics and told him what it was and how much to fix. It was several weeks later when he took it back to get repaired. May be worth it to have them check your's out and have it scanned

when was the last time you did a tune up? plugs, air filter, fuel filter, etc. plugs should be changed around 100k according to the manuals. if changeing the plugs and fuel filter do not solve your problem, then i would put it on a scanner and watch for misfires while it is ideling.

thanks for the ideas, i changed the plugs and wires at 90k and again today fuel and air filters are okay. i try to stay current on all maintenance. it almost feels like it wont shift down into first gear although when i manually put it in first it has no trouble. i had the tranny rebuilt at about 85k(a whole other story, and stealership is the correct term) i hate taking it to anyone to have it worked on seems like you always get them back with more problems than you started with but i may have to break down and do it anyway. thanks to everyone for your advice.

i hear that.. had some body work done last summer, they put the wrong wiring harness in the door, which shorted out all kinds of stuff.. went thru a couple dozen fuses before finding the problem. after a half dozen trips back in where they fixed something and broke something else, i called it good. currently my power seats and locks don't work, and that's the best it's been since they got their mits on it. i hate having other people work on my baby.

good luck with the stealership, anyway.

I had shifting problem about 5 yrs ago. I could manually shift it, but if left in drive it would rev to red line then hammer into gear. The shop I went to replaced the trany with a rebuilt, still had the same problems. Turned out to be some broken wires that went to the trany. I never physically seen them so can't really tell you where the break was but could possibly be part of your problem.

you have a 20 pin connector on the right side that is protected by a heat shield. they could have rubbed against it....
