Hooking up speedometer cable

I have recently put a 1976 454 BB in my 99 silverado. I also put in a th400 tranny and have know idea where the speedometer cable attaches to the tranny. I don't even know what i'm looking for. The Haynes manual wasn't much help.

if it werent so cold out and also snowing, i would go look at mine. but it should connect toward the back of the transmission by the tailshaft. you will see a hole back there and a place for where the bolting clip goes. dont know for sure, been so long since i looked. others might know better.

A 99 should be an electronic speedometer sensor--no cable. Did you put in an older engine and transmission?

99 silverado is electric speedo, where your TH400 is cable driven. check out dakota digital for a conversion kit..

a little curious as why you went backward in technology? 99 should have had an LS engine which is capable of creating just as much horsepower (with the right tuning) as the big block and being more fuel efficient.

oh and respect and politeness will get you alot farther on this board.

Two posts have addressed your question that you wanted help for.
The others have taken an interest in your project.
So you put in an older engine and a cabled tranny, does this mean your 99
now no longer has an electric speedo ? After connecting the cable to the
tranny, are you planning taking the other end to an aftermarket speedo ?

FYI the folks posting replies are trying to be of help, they don't owe you anything.

perhaps you have joined the wrong forum.

i agree a little respect would be appreciated for the guys in here they can be alot of help and i think several of them are certified techs so i think they know whats goin on.....simplifying it down, the '76 motor and tranny might not be set up with computers and all but your truck's speedo setup is electric just like the rest of the original setup on the truck was before you made the swap. the th400 has a cable driven speedo, so what they are trying to tell you is that you are going to have to come up with some sort of "adapter or converter" to make it work for you.
