help how to remove S10 tailgate cables

Cant remove tailgate cables from my 1998 S10 tailgate held on via

a large rivet , looks like I need to grind or cut off rivet with a dremmel tool,

before doing such need a avice if this is the apprroiate proceedure ...

There is a recall or special policy on some of them that are covered by your dealer because i have replaced some. I used a drill to removed them just stuck a piece of metal between the bracket and bed of truck drilled them out while they are attached then loosened the bolts and installed new cables with screws and then retightened the bolts

what size drill ? the rivet is 1/2 to 5/8 , I tried to remove bracket ater taking out bolts

( to use drill press) & the little gizmo that moves back & forth to open taigate is preventing removing bracket.......... thanks

i think it was a 3/8 drill bit the rivot head is bigger than the shank that goes through the hole

I want to ask a dumb question here. Why do you need to remove the cables to begin with? Did they break? I was just curious.

id say they did 88-98 chevy fulsize truck were mad about them rusting out and breaking. oem part was made in china ahd the replacement gm now uses is made in mexico or vise versa. either way thats what you get when 10y/o kids are making ur parts
