Here's a little information: which to believe I can't tell you because there is conflicting information in different listings.

The stamped, I stress stamped, number on the front of the engine is the engine id number. The first letter tells you the manufacturing plant, the following numbers give the month and day of manufacture, and the final 3 letters are the engine suffix code.

Two sources gave information helpful to your numbers - The LMC Truck Catalog and 73-87.com. The TXB suffix shows up in both as a 1975 350ci V8 engine used on C20 to 3500. The CKX suffix shows up as 72 or 73 vette or 76 camaro 350ci V8 in the 73-87.com listing and did not show up in my 1973-87 LMC Truck Catalog. You did not say what engine you have 6 cyl or V8 engine, which would have been helpful.

I presume the 3790010 number you stated is on the rear of the block and is a raised number. If so it is likely a block casting number. I did not find that number in 73-87.com or in jimsperformance.com/blocks.html but the latter lists a 3970010 casting as being a 1967 thru 1979 350ci V8. There was also one listing of that 3970010 casting being a 327 engine. You might try a search on chevy block casting numbers.

Then you will have to deal with whether the engine is original or rebuilt or modified. Such fun!
