| Thanks for the tip stumpuller, I checked and cleaned the air flow sensor but no luck. I had the wife hold the rpms at 2200 and I could hear a pop pop at the exhaust pipe every few seconds like a missfire, If I didn"t have new I would say a cap or wire symptom. Im thinking of pulling the cap and rotor just to have a look! |

| I have the same thing on mine. A mechanic told me that it was the FP regulator. Another mechanic told me it was the Cat since at the time it had a PO420 code. I've not been able to pin point the problem but it is annoying. If you come up with a solution let us know. |

| OK heres a new development, I decided to look at the motor at night, when I increase the rpm I start to get a glow between the coil and the metal mounting square that surrounds it. A new delco coil does the same thing. My wifes truck has the same motor and does not do it so I dont think its normal! This is very wierd. |

| Hello All, I have the exact same problem with my 97 silverado 5.7. 340doc, you did a great job explaining it. For my pickup/truck it only does this once in awhile. And like yours you can kinda give it the right amount of throttle to get around it. I moved from the mid-west to the south west last January, and on the trip down i had alot of problems with the sputtering until we got past colorado and into nice temperatures, dont know why that made a difference but it did. Now i hardly drive the truck, due to have a company vehicle but i would like to know if anyone had anymore feed back on this. But the main reason I came across this is because i have a problem with my Brake lights on my 97 chevy 1500. All the other lights work perfect. It is not the bulbs or fuses. I have tested every wire and have one loose white wire which i dont know where it goes. This white wire comes from the front of the truck and has power when the brakes are applied. It comes from the front in a bundle with a Brown, yellow, lt green, drk green orange and blue wires. The orange and blue wires loop and go back towards the front end and they are also a much larger gauge. The other wires except the white go into the harness wher e you can add a trailer light harness.; The brown has power when the lights are turned on, the yellow for left blinker, the drk green for right blinker and the lt green for reverse. But i have no clue where the white wire should go. The white wire is also spliced into to power the third brake light on my topper. this light works perfect being that wire gives power when the brakes are applied. Does anyone have any ideas for me on either topic? Im new to the site, and so far have loved alot of the things i have found. Thank you all, Ross |

| mine does the same thing. havent been able to figure it out either. i know i need to get my cats replced (i think there may be two on mine, cant remember) but it tends to do it a little worse when towing so i've thought maybe the tranny. and once if i hit 60 or higher, its smooth sailing, but if i try to ride steady at 55 it does every now and again. i need to time how often it does it

| I think you are onto something with the timeing. Thats what one of my good freinds thought too. He is one of those people that always thinks he is right, so i havent wanted to dig into it yet to show him he is. But now i think it is time. |

| Mine truck did the same thing. Not every day....7 or 8 days running fine, then 3 days hesitation-roughness while driving. It was loose gas cap. Filling station guy wasn't putting it on tight enough. Symptoms coincided with times I went to the station.
