Advice for tires

Hey guys I have a 96 Chevy all stock right now.. but I want to put bigger tires on it. I am curious if I will have to do anything if I put 285 70 17 tires on it? Thanks

285/70/17's are just shy of 33" tires, and unless you are talking about a full size, with probably the Z71 package, those might be awfully tight. You may be looking at trimming the fenders up front to allow the tires to turn.

tires

I think it may depend on the wheel you use. With a factory wheel these may fit with little to no problem due to the dish of the wheel. If you go with an after market wheel you may have to crank up the torsion bars or even go with a lift. If you crank up the torsion bars you have to have an alingment though or it is going to eat off your new tires.

I have a 96 and I have 32x11.5x15 on there right now and I just had to crank up the torsion bars. Rides a little rough but it looks sweet with the nice wide tires. You should be able to fit them but you might have to crank up the torsion bars.

My brother runs 285/70/17's with the stock wheels on his 97 1/2 ton 4x4 with out any problems, I am running 32/11.5-15's on 15x8 wheels with 5 1/4 back spacing on my 95 Suburban with the torsion bars cranked about 3/4 turn and they never rub anything and it still rides as good as it did stock.

heres what i do when buying tires, i grab a tape, measure my cleareances' and find a tire that will ride and work without rubbing or chopping up my fenders. here is a web site you can go to to find tire sizes, and theres a bunch of other help full calculators on it as well. Technical Information
