Need Help straight pipe/engine questions

Ok i have a 2000 chevy half ton z71 with the 5.3 vortec and 181500 miles and i want to put straight pipes from the cats back on it like i had on my old truck but my dad wont let me cause he think sence the truck has high miles the pipes will ruin the engine and i dont think it will, will this happen? I need help talking him into it.

k first of all is it your truck or his truck? if its "yours" you should be able to do what you want to it. second any time you can make the truck brethe better your doing it a favor, not only does a dual exhaust sound and look good.(on most trucks!!) it helps it run alot better, your getting rid of heat and gases faster thus more power, longevity, and healthier breathing truck. thats what i think, you got to talk him into it. i had the same battle when i bought my truck a long time ago. i just went out and did it, then they cant do anything about it any way!! good luck dude...

straight piping it will not hurt it at all. itll just be way louder and gain a little horsepower and lose a little torque. aka better topend with less bottom end.

keithr hit the nail on the head... adding to that, if you plan to use your truck for mudding or low end torque fun like that then you should run duals behind the cat, otherwise for better high end torque ie: racing the coppers down the freeway (not recomended) then you could just run TRUE dual pipes. either way duals sound just awesome behind any kind of vortec like yours

make sure you X it! 8 cylinders firing versus a pair of 4 bangers is always nicer!

straight piping will help it more than anything else. better breathing= longer lasting motor, maybe you should tell your old man that your gonna throw in dual cat converters...that might appease him a little more, but yes definetely "X" them pipes, it'll sound a lot better, in my opinion
