Question 01 K2500 drl always on

I have an 01 K2500LS 4x4 ext cab short bed Equipped with auto on lights and drl's Problem is running lights and headlights are constantly on and do not turn off or go to drl during daylight. Is this a failed sensor located in the center of the dashboard defroster vent, is it common problem, can the sensor be R&R'd without removing dash?

Yeah, more than likely a bad sunload sensor (the one in the middle of the dash).

it is under the vent plate under the wiper arms. There are like six bolts that hold it on. Very simple to remove, not all that time consuming either.. Should not be difficult. But for the cost of the part, why not just let the lights on? It is not hurting anything right?

Thanx guys. Pushed the button 3 times & lights out. Must do it each time I start the truck however. don't really wanna just leave the lights on, those ultra bulbs ain't cheap. I'll check out cost of sunload sensor. Thanks again.
