GMC van won't turn right My father in law has a 02 GMC van. It has'ent been used much in the last 6 months and now it is real hard to turn right, like no power assist. Left is not as bad but used to be easier. Are we talking pump or box, how about an additive?

Provided the hydraulic pipes are not kinked or damaged, system is not low on fluid and belt is tight then you have sticking valves in the pump or the pump output is poor. You could try an additive which might work if it is sticking valves.

| your looking at a box problem. the pump supplies pressure regardless of wheel position.

Yes everything is good, fluid and belt, I'm kinda leaning toward the box, I agree wouldent the pump work in both directions?

Could there be some type of valve that's not working right?

Yes Skylark, I think, has made a good point. The pump flow and pressure is the same regardless of which way you turn the wheel. A good chance then you do have a faulty box. Is there a big difference between left and right? Does one way feel like no power at all and needs muscle to turn while the other way turns easily with one hand?

It sounds like most of you are leaning toward the box. Yes Case, to turn right it seems like no power steering. You have to go left to turn eaiser.
