Transmission help

My 1994 chevy truck has a hard shift in all the gears and "BANGS" when it shifts into 2nd or 3rd and back down. What could this be? I bought it used and since then have replaced 2 busted motor mounts and a busted rear transmission mount (thinking this was the problem) but the banging and hard shift still exist. Any ideas? (A/T)

Welcome to the forum ironhorse.
Probably wouldn't hurt to read the trouble codes for ideas too.
Have you pulled those yet ?

I will start checking these things out. Thanks. Just to let you know that the A/T has been rebuilt in hopes of fixing the problem.

This could be as simple as a shift kit was added. If the builder was really good they might notice it but not if they' re not looking for it.

Trouble codes can be read for you by a local parts store for free maybe.
Otherwise do it yourself. Simple proceedure, you need a pencil and paper,
and you need a jumper wire (paper clip).
With the key on and the engine off, jump socket holes "A" and "B" of the ALDL.
That's located under the edge of dash, pointed at you, near brake release.
When you do that the check engine light will flash in a pattern of codes.
It will flash(blink) the codes it has stored and then will repeat the list of them.
In the event that no codes are stored, it will only flash a code twelve (1-2).
Let us know what codes you see and we will help with translation.
In this picture the ALDL connector is almost dead center.

odbi is quite limited for transmission information.

might need to attack it old school.

sounds mechanical.

Agreed that OBD-I is primitive but I do have a list of codes for it.
Mostly rooting around for more info.
