Silverado Multifunction Switch Installation

I need some help.

Discovered that the multifunction switch on the steering column of my 1995 Chevy Silverado is bad.

Bought a new one. Got the old one off the column and now attempting to remove the connectors from the junction box underneath the dash.

They just won't pull out. I looked as best I could and seems there is some type of black retaining bar across the bottom of all the connectors that needs to be removed.

Can someone please advise as how I do this???

I appreciate your help!!!

Thanks!

If it's one like I'm thinking of then use two thin guitar picks. Place them under the retainers on either side and wiggle and pull the connector off. I tried using jeweler’s screwdrivers to pry them apart once and broke both retainers off but the connector was so tight that the retainers were superfluous.

z07;
Thanks. The issue is that the connectors are rectangular in shape with the long side of the rectangles running up and down and the short side Left to Right. It appears that there is something holding them in place on the short side (left to right). It is the same color (black) as where the connectors plug into and appears that this has to be "removed" and the connectors could be pulled straight out.

The connectors on the new switch have just a slight "bump" on them on the long side but that doesn't seem do be the issue.

Wish I had a picture, cause I know how difficult this is with words.

Like these?

I wish I could be of more help but I will say that if it were my truck, I'd break the retaining bar if I couldn't figure out how it removes and if the little tabs didn't seem tight enough on reinstall I'd use zip ties to make it all fast. YMMV it's the little things like stuck bolts and such that make wrenching such a joy.

Yeah, you got it.

I did figure out what I was doing wrong. Never saw the 5/32 nut in the middle of the connector bulk head.

Never claimed to be smart (LOL,LOL)

So, got it all disconnected and am now putting the new switch back and hopefully will "button up" the thing today.

Keep your fingers crossed and THANKS for all your help!!!
