ignition mod

can anyone hekp me out on this I feel kind of stupid asking but I just repkaced my ingnition modual located on the coloum. how do you adjust it I mean I know how to move it but how do you know when it is right.

when I start my truck it turns over fine but wont start. once you let go / move the key back to the on position it will start. not every time sometimes you have to crank the key over a few times before it fires.

when i bought the truck it had a quadjet on it and she fired right up after a few pumps to the pedel. I rebuilt the top end and put a edlelbrock performer 650 cfm with a matching intake. that is when this started and everyone that I talk to has no idea what is causing it.

There was a guy posted exactly the same problem a short time ago. If you do a search or look back over recent posts you may get some help. It sounds to me like a faulty ign. switch though.

To answer the question in your first paragraph. Set it where you think it may be right, tighten the screws just enough to keep it from sliding, then check each position of the key. ie make sure the engine cranks when turned clear forward. when you let go of the key make sure the guages and dash lights(if equipped) are activated. When you turn back a little farther MAKE SURE everything shuts off BEFORE the steering wheel locks. Make sure everything is still off in the lock position. Make sure the radio works in the acc. position if set up that way. Keep tweaking it until it's right then fully tighten the screws. PS, I don't think replacing the switch(module as you call it) is going to fix your starting problem, but was worth a try. Good luck.

there are a few other things that i am thinking about. one is the timing and the vacuum advance. I picked up another fuel line from the mech pump to the carb yesterday so I am goingn to put that on later today.

... ... ... Sorry, I thought this was funny.

I am curious though, when it comes to an ignition switch and starting problems, how would a faulty vacuum line affect this? I thought it was all electrical?

Okay, you know what, nevermind, I re-read and re-read this, and understand now. I guess it is not a good idea to skim quickly before posting huh? LOL. Sorry.

it happens.

I fixed the problem with my truck eating flywheels. all it took was two shims in the starter. I ordered a heavy duty flywheel and it will be here on tuesday and it will be fixed.

Glad you caught the shim thing, might want to post that final back in your other thread for searchers' benefit.
I know there were some other threads dealing with that set up too, keeps our library good.
