| It may not be enough of an increase to justify the cost, but switch to high tes fuel. Better quality fuel, burns more efficiently, therefore gains mileage. However, it is only like a 2-3mpg gain, and with the cost of gas, that is not always pratical. Another suggestion is replacement air filtration system. Most people swear by a new intake, I have used them myself and seen and increase. You do not to go all out like with K&N and the whole nine yards, I went to autozone and picked up a cone filter off the shelf for like 20 bucks, and removed the air box under the hood and replaced with the filter. I gained about 3mpg out of it. Does depend quite a bit on how you drive. Another suggestion is a throttle body spacer, but this has varied results. More for more HP gain, but there is an increase in MPG. I have also had good success with the bosch platinum plus four plugs. Pricy but makes a difference. I also swear by full synthetic oil too. I would be willing to bet that you add and intake, Throttle body spacer, New upgraded plugs and wires, AND run high tes, you may be round 20mpg. But realistically, with what is involved and costs, I would just accept that 15-16mpg is great for a V8. Hope all this scattered info helps you out a bit.

| high octane fuel wont help a low compression engine gain miles unless your towing, even then its just a minamal horspower gain at best.. if you can reduce the wieght of the truck that would help, plus keeping the tires pumped up,and driving style..you would need a free flow intake with headers and free flow exhaust to see any performance increase..basically spend $2,000 bux for 2-4 mpg gain...with local driving you still wont see a dramatic change to justify the expense....if you can afford the upgrades then the price of gas should'nt be an issue...... |
