| Sterio Question So i want to put a system in my 92 K1500 extended cab pick up. i will be installing an alpine CDA 9853 headunit, Alpine Type S 6.5" component set, Alpine Type S 6.5" coaxles, Alpine MRV-F450 5 channel amp, Pioneer 12" sub in a sealed enclosure, and a Pioneer 760w amp for the sub. what i am looking for is some ideas on speaker locations for the best imaging and sound quality. i do not really want to remove the rear seat, as i use this truck. any thoughts?

| Well first off I hope you haven't bought the Pioneer part of your system yet. I've never liked Pioneer subs, there is better to be had for the same money. Check out Elemental Designs the SQ10 to be exact. I have two of these behind the seat of a 1998 regular cab with the NINe.2 amp in sealed box built to their specs. I get asked all the time how did I get 2 12's in a regular cab. Don't be fooled by their looks they get loud and low with sound quality second to none. And if it matters they are a US based company. And as for all of those 6 1/2's where are you going to put them? You will also need to upgrade the big 3 as well. |

| I had 2 12'' pioneers in my 94 regular cab running off of a Kicker ZR1000 which puts 500+w RMS per channel (2) at 2ohms. and 4 Kicker 4x6" running off a Kicker ZR600. I build all my own boxes to fit whatever I need it to fit. I went through 3 alternators and a few batteries in that truck. My headlights were like a strobe light when I turned it up lol. There is nothing wrong with Pioneer but I can't say the same about my hearing

| my pioneer sub and amp have been around for 3-4 years now and i have never had a problem with either. what do you mean i will have to upgrade the big 3??? i am running a streetwires 4awg wiring kit, street wires power and ground distro blocks, streetwires Z.N.250 rca's. The 6.5 components i was debating on either building kick panels or door pods, the co ax's i was thinking about in the extended cab sections, and the sub probably under the backseat

| The big 3 refers to the: 1. Power wire from the battery/alternator back to the amp(s) 2. Ground wire to the engine block 3. Ground wire to the chasis Normally, when you do this upgrade, you would use 1/0 wire (unless you know for a fact that you will never go bigger with your sound system and 4 awg will carry all the current needed and then some). You would obviously use multiple runs of 1/0 or go bigger (2/0, 3/0, 4/0, etc.) if you have bigger than 2000 watts (2000 watts is a rule of thumb, it is by no means a hard rule). Don't use a manufactured prefab box. Normally, those boxes are not built well and are not sized appropriately for your sub and/or the cabin of your vehicle. Keep in mind, all subs are different and like different enclosure sizes, types, etc. The enclosure drastically affects how the sub sounds, couple that with the cabin (size, design, etc.) of your truck and the sub will sound very different (louder, quiter, boomier, sloppy, precise, etc.) If you want to pay about $60, there is a guy out of Georgia (I think) that will design a box for you that matches your sub and your cabin. He will send you prints of the box and you will have to build it. He will also build it for you, but that will cost you more than $60. Do a search for Hexibase. The guys name is Pete Kluicki (sp?). He is a top notch sound guy and does top notch work. If you were to replace your Pioneer with another brand, as previously mentioned, Elemental Designs is a really good brand. Personally though, I would look at Fi. They are relatively new to the sound industry and right now you can't beat their prices for the subs that you get. You can find their website at www.ficaraudio.com. Hope some of this helps a little bit. My setup in my 92 Blazer is as follows: 2 12" Kicker L7's 1 Hifonics Brutus 2006D 1 Hifonics Zeus 4406 1 pair Hifonics 6.5" Coax 1 pair Hifonics 6.5" component set 1 20 farad hybrid cap 1 JVC KD-AR860 head unit Big three completed with 1/0 wire 1 Optima Yellow Top 1 H.O. alternator (200 amp) |

| i have never used a prefab box. i always build my own boxes, amp racks and speaker pods/kick panels. I think if my sub ever lets go i would probably switch it out to an alpine type R or S, and a corresponding alpine amp. the way i run this right now in my car is 4awg to the power block than 8 awg to the amps, than 8awg from the amps to negative block than 4 awg to the chassis. my grounds total length from each amp to the chassis is under 2 feet.

| I would go with under the back seat I had one built for a 98 ext cab with oa 10" JL audio and it het real good. You don't lose any room but the little bit under your seat. |

| I have a cheapo bass cannon with built in amp from probably Wal-Mart and im using all the other four speakers for high notes with the factory radio 93 F/S GMC I have a Kenwood head unit that I took out of Burb before I sold it but where the factory cassette goes in my truck it has nice wood since it's a Trailmaster convertion truck but im close to place it in my truck I was running small speakers in the dash of my 87 Burb with 6x9's where factory speakers were but in boxes that one buys at Wal-Mart then I had a MTX sub in a box that sounds SUPER good in burb with a MTX amp so that what I want to do now is use the stuff I have already I was running a amp for each per of speakers and some kind of MTX electronic crossover I know the 6x9's were running off a Alpine amp and I forgot what amp I was running the front speakers and what I also did on the burb is make a box where the center console was and had my amps in there and Kenwood at a 45 degree angle so that I could see it and change CD's but when ever I get close to doing it to my truck something comes up and there goes the money. Good luck! |
