| I have a 68 Chevy 1/2 ton longbed pickup. It still has the 2 piece driveshaft. What years Chevy or GMC pickup automatic transmission will bolt right up and be the right size? Also what is the tailshaft length I'm looking for? It has a smallblock 400V8. Thanks, WC Edgar |

| Welcome to the site; There are only two tailshafts available. One is long, and one is short. To really answer your question, all BBC, and SBC trucks with the same configuration will be the same. Just a thought, but both the TH350, and the TH400 will bolt right up. Even the same driveshaft will work provided that equal yokes are used, and equal tailshafts are also used. Maybe a little further information will help. The information regarding the use of a 400 inch SBC is a little vague. All chevy engines of this era, were capable of using the same transmissions. |

| ok, being a 68, you either have a 400 or a slip and slide glide, if its stock. A TH350, 700r, will bolt right in and work, if you have a glide. the 400 is a bit longer than the others, about 1.25" longer and the yoke is a 32 spline instead of a 27. the yoke is unique to the 400, M22s, and trucks. a 2004r will bolt right inplace, but will use a 27 spline yoke. what tranny do you have now?

| No tranny right now. Just have the 2 piece driveshaft with carrier bearing. Sooo, If I go to a salvage yard or where ever, what trans out of what do I ask for? I either want the 350 or 400 Turbo and want to stay away from that 700R unit. Thanks, WC |

| Just a thought. You could find any 3 speed trans with a long tailshaft, and maybe get lucky. Worst case, would be that you have to shorten your shaft. This is a much easier solution and much easier than the alternative. If you buy a short tailshaft transmission, you may find that the driveshaft is not lobg enough, and it becomes much more expensive to lengthen a driveshaft than it is to shorten one. Making one shorter only requires a cut, and balance. Last time I checked, a driveshaft stretching tool is very rare, and super hard to find. (my attempt at being a wise guy.) Should maybe start with the slip yoke to see what length and spline you actually have. |

| Turbo 350s came out in 69, so chances are if you have a 27 spline yoke, it was a powerglide. if its a 32 spline then it had a 400. a short 350, a 700, and a glide all had the same length, so that makes it easy.
