| I knew of a guy a few years ago with a very similar problem in a Ford explorer. I was caused by the "automatic" four wheel drive staying in 4x4 on dry roads. The thump when reversing was the four wheel drive disengaging. You should be able to read error codes with a scanner like a Tech-1. Some auto stores ( I think Autozone ) will read codes for free.l |

| Most of your large chain auto stores, Auto Zone, Advance Auto, CarQuest, NAPA and such will read it for free. However, their equipment is usually limited to just the ECU and not even all models, kind of dumb if you ask me. That truck has a push button shift for the 4wd right? Is the light indicating it is IN 4wd all the time? Or just periodically by itself? Another thing I have learned recently is that the fully automatic actuators sometimes take several miles to disengage fully. and can cause vibrations and such until it does. When was the last time she legitimately used the 4wd?

| a buddy of mine has a silverado that was doing this, i believe the problem turned out to be the automatic 4wd servo or whatever it is that is supposed to make it kick into 4wd. basically its going off by itself and needs replacing. i think thats you're problem, but no promisses
