5.3 or 5.7 ?? OK. I searched but couldn't find anything so please bear with me. I've got an opportunity to buy either a 99 Chev 5.7 4X4 or a 2000 GMC 4X4 with the 5.3. Forgetting the one year newer, newer body style, tow haul trans, etc, with both vehs having the same mileage of 130K and being the same price, is there an advantage of one engine over the other? Not so much in power, but in reliabilty and longevity? Thanks for any help or info you can give.

I'd go with the 5.7, the 5.7 replaced the 350 and 5.3 replaced the 305. I always liked the 350 for overall use.

it depends what you want really...the 5.3 has more hp but less torque than the slightly larger dispaced 5.7. i personally own a 5.7 but i have driven a 5.3. in my own personal opinion if i had to choose between the two i would get a 5.7. thats just me tho

I love my 93 5.7 engine but on the newer trucks like a 2005 that 5.3 is built better to me and I think they will last longer and there is ton's of up-grades that one can do to them to get them moving faster.

| I have sold a few of the 5.3l and the biggest complaint I have heard is power. They get much better gas mileage then you would expect from a V8, but might just be the drivers. However, if the one a year newer with the towing pakage and newer body style is the same price I would chose the 5.3l. However, you might be able to use that to get a lower price on the 99 so really it boils down to the deal. How were the trucks cared for, and do either owner have records. Depending upon what you want it for, either truck is a good investment.

The 5.3 replaced the 5.7 the 4.8 replaced the 5.0 both of the newer engines are very well built with more hp but a little less torque. They also get better mileage in general and have proven to be just a bullet proof as the old 5.7 5.3=285hp 325ftp 4.8=270hp 285ftp When u drive them the 5.3 seems much stronger... the 2008's have more. 4.8=295hp 5.3=315hp Also the old 6.0 had 300hp in 2008 it is 353hp.
