a buddy of mine just did his exhaust on an 89 subburban using the cherry bomb vortec mufflers. it sounds great but i think he should have went with 3 inch instead of 2.5. but it still sounds mean and its different then flowmasters. on the higher rmps it kind of pops but an x pipe or h pipe would solve that problem

please don't get glasspacks, like cherry bombs. if you go with out mufflers then get resonator tips to put on the end of your exhaust.

they help mellow out the sound so your not the annoying truck people can hear coming a mile away. they are like a glass pack in a way. i know i said not to get a glass pack, but they sound better than a cherry bomb type of glass pack.

How loud does it sound with and without the resonator tips? Like straight piped with cats?

i'll try to find a sound clip for you.
found this so far, may help you out.

Resonators
On your typical cat-back exhaust system, you'll see a couple of bulges in the piping that are apparently mini-mufflers out to help the big muffler that hangs out back. These are called Helmholtz Resonators and are very similar to glasspacks. The main difference is that firstly, there is no sound-absorbing fiberglass or steel wool in a Resonator. And secondly, their main method of silencing is the reflective principle, not absorption. An easy way to tell the difference between a glasspack and a true Helmholtz Resonator is to "ping" one with your finger. A glasspack will make a dull thud, and a true Resonator will make a clear "ping!" sound.

i would think they would help mellow out the noise when you are cruiseing. i don't think there would be much of a noise difference when you are on the gas.
