'89 K-1500 Hood Latch Broken, Can't Hood Open, Please Help

We're trying to get started on a project truck here but the hood won't even open, it seems like the cable broke at the hood latch or something.

How would you go about getting the hood open without the latch?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the site:
If you pull on the release there is absolutely no tension? Or it pulls like it opens, but the hood is not popping?

There is some tension but it doesn't feel like the hood actually releases at the latch, sounds like the cable moves from the inside handle all the way to the front but doesn't move the latch.

Try one person pulling the release lever, and the other pulling up on the hood. Could just be stuck. I had an old dodge that did that everytime. Then if you get it open, be sure to lubricate the latch to prevent it from happening again. If that does not work, post back.

no, we already tried pulling on it. The latch is stuck closed and the release won't move it at all.

I use the the not so gentle for of pursuaion sometimes, hitting it always works...LOL. Can you see the latch from inside the front grill? If so, can you get some lube like WD-40 up in there, and see if that works?

I agree with all your sugesstions and if I could add one more.
If my truck was in the yard now I'd go look for you. If you can see the release I'd hit the hood first or push down on it . Spray the release with WWD40 wait a while and use the old handy screwdriver to manually release it. Maybe if you can see the cable you could pull it with some long needle nose plyers from the latch.

we have the latch soaking in Liquid Wrench right now, the latch is pretty far up there to get with a screw driver but we've been trying that as well.

The cable looks like it goes right where it should but the latch doesn't move at all when you pull on it, maybe the cable broke inside the liner.

I just got back from where my truck('89CK1500) is. I looked at the latch. Here's what it looked like. The latch is set pretty high near the hood. The cable runs along the rail and is held in place on the latch with a clip/plug type thing. I would try to have someone pull the hood release from in the truck and have someone try to grab the cable from the outside of the truck. If you stick your hand palmside up into the grill opening closest to the cable you might be able to reach it to pull it or hook it.
The latch is held inplace with 4 bolts. Two on the grill side and two on the inside rail.
Hope that helps.
