looking for re-assurance on Chevy depenability I have been a chevy guy my whole life, (Not that it is that long I am only 30). My dad brought me up to be a chevy man. I have always owned chevys. When I started driving they were used and then I started leaseing for a few cars cycles. With a lease I have always turned the vehicle in after 3 years. I wanted to get out of that cycle so I decided to buy my first new car. I decided on a silverado becuase I do a lot of projects on my house so the bed is handy and I figured thay have been around for a while. It is a 2007 1500 crew cab classic 4x4 with the 5.3. I am really happy with it. I just hit the year mark with it and am putting just under 25,000 miles a year. My initial plan was to have this truck for 20 years. I have religiously been doing 3,000 mile oil changes. If I take care of it can I really expect to get that type of longevity out of this truck?

As long as you do the regular maintenance and took care of it and wasn't rough on it I will last for years. My truck is a 96 and I've had it for about 3 years on it and I bought it used with about 156000 miles on it and now I have about 212000 miles on it and to this day it still runs like a champ with regular maintenance and just using it like a truck should be used.

i got 267000 on my truck when i bought it and it ran great till i raced an 85 c10 that killed me. but you are talking about 500,000 thats alot of miles for a truck specially one that is used as a truck but if you take care of it anything is possible. dont let anything go i cant tell you how many beaters i have bought that just had stupid little problems that i let go and they would eventually kill the thing

The only thing is that gm still has issues with trannys. Im a gm guy too but they do go. If you just plan that somewere near 100k you will have to do it, youll be fine. If you take good care of it, a one time tranny fix for around...15-2000 is worth it.... Now some dont but many do.. its not uncommon to have them go at 80k but also go to 150k you just never know. the 5.3 and the 4.8 are just as relyable as the old 5.7 ..if not more..

| These are cool testimates to chevy, but truth is, you bought it new. And any vehicle, from new, with one owner, as long as it is properly maintained will last a long long time. Oil changes, tranny services, tune-ups, tires, mufflers etc. You take care of it, it will take care of you. It will not be free, nor never have a problem, but keeping up with the matinence will make all the difference in the world. I think you will be fine bud, remember, Chevy's are built like a rock!

Good luck with your truck I bought my 2000 model chevy 2500 series new and have tried to take care of it, almost no one has ever driven it but me, truck now has 80K. 350 engine, 4l80E transmission, 3.73 gears Front brake calibers and tach replace under warranty Odor kit installed at 10K under warranty, cab smelled like dogs butt, mama would not even ride in truck. Fuel pump out at 45K $600 Intake gaskets at 60K $475, AC compressor at 70K $600 Water pump at 75K $150 Transmission torque converter out at 80K $1050, just got in home last week. So as you can see from my record I am not too impressed. I really expected better performance from a big old heavy truck. New truck is not in my future at present, but when I do purchase again will look hard at Toyota.

I take notice everyday, that with the exception of the brand new models where the race seems even, that for the older generations around here, Chevy is everywhere! If there seems to be more chevy and GMC's on the road, that should let you know that GM is strong.
