| Quick 2001 silverado Questions I have had heated mirrors on 2 of my trucks. A truck I bought in Jan one of the mirrors isnt defrosting (guessing its a bad heating ellement) How would I know or go about finding out? How do you tear apart the mirror? Thank you all in advance. | the interior trim panel should pull straight off...you should see the wires then...see if there is voltage present...did you check the htd/mirr fuse under the hood? |

| If it is the heating element in the mirror itself, it would be a lot less expensive to find a replacement mirror then to replace the element itself. Several I have seen after reapir, never work right, like only defrosting the inner half of the mirror. I am not sure why, maybe was not done right, .... but I would just replace the whole mirror.

| I took the interior pannel off yesterday after work and I just used a test light and it lit up. So I have power going to it, I turned it on for a while and it was warm to the touch but it just doesnt seem warm when driving like it should. I guess I will just have to wait and see for some frost to come. Its just the drivers side mirror, and I do have power to it. |

| From what I've heard, the newer ones have a much higher fail-rate than the OBS trucks. You should have made a comparative "feel" check of the other side when you had it warm. It's not going to get hot enough to fry eggs on, so it may be currently working. The element that's bonded to rear of glass may have a crack in it that opens in colder air. If you should happen to catch it not warm and power checks ok w/ light, disconnect plug and ohm it, probably open at that time. Wouldn't it be nice to have a proximity temp probe |
