71 camper special 20 2nd battery

I got a 71 chevy from my dad 4x2. Currently I am re wiring it with a painless kit. The truck originally had duel batteries. 1 for acessories 1 just to start the truck. I would like to wire it up but I'm no electrician. Can anyone help? Just to let you know it has a 350 with 11-1 compression and ready to rip your head off. I cant wait to get it back on the road!

The wiring for the truck and the wiring for the camper will only be connected through a one way switch. My van camper as box that does this. It lets the alt charge both the batterys when it running but won't let you pull any power from the engine battery to run the camper acc.

Dual Battery kits are available from your local auto supply stores. You really do not just want to connect two batteries together, and while an RV switch is alright, it serves its purpose well for its intended use.
Battery isolation should be maintained so when the aux battery is depleted, it does not affect the main battery. Both will have to charge while the engine is running.
Easiest is to just buy a kit that has instructions, and all of the hardware.
You are already installing a nice kit from painless, just take the little extra step, and upgrade to dual batteries. You will thank yourself later. Kits will be clean and easy, especially if you are a little bit new to the electrical world.
Incorrect connections could result in 24 volts, and your truck will not like that too much. Lights will be brighter than anything you have ever seen, but they will only be bright for a few minutes, lol.
Try to find a kit, best bet there I believe.
