| I own a 2001 chev ext. cab 4x4 5.3l As of late it seems the trans is not acting quite right. It seems to slip from 2nd to 3rd gear under hard acceleration ONLY. The truck has 130,000 kms on it, and has never really pulled anything but a camper a few times a year. Took it to a local mechanic to get the codes read and the trans oil changed. No codes were retreived or stored. Took for a test drive after oil change and seems to have gotten a bit better but still seem like it still is slipping from 2-3 gear. Mechanic also added a can of sea-foam to transmision. He said to give a couple of days and see what happens. The truck also seems to not downshift properly. (rpms stay very low and lagging when the gas pedal is pressed) Does this truck have a transmission linkage cable or is it electronic? Any comments or input would be appreciated. Thank in advance. |

| you most likely to have a 4l60e or a 4l56 either will be electronic. most likley cause for slipping 2/3 are sticky valve in valve body or worn 3/4 clutches either way give lucas a try first hope this help's |

| thanks for your responses guys! If the problem is electronic then what is the solution? Replace the shifter solenoid? Does this also mean the trans will eventually have to be pulled and replace the clutches? P.S. the new oil smells a little burnt. |

| you can take the valve body out without the tranny coming out. as far as your issue. under heavy acceleration, your computer can see that you are accelerating hard and purposfully holds a low gear so you can get more HPs in the high RPM range. you may have chewed some friction discs up towing that camper around. if you mech has a nice scan tool, i beleive he should be able to look at values of fill times for the clutch packs to see if they are burnt up. i could be wrong about that.
