1980 chevy fullsize no turn signals? help!

i have a 1980 chevy pickup today i noticed while driving that i had no turn signals. if i have my foot on the brakes and move the lever for the l or r signal, the brake light turns off. any ideas what may be the problem or where to start? thanks guys.

welcome to the forum lcncapo.

Sounds like the turn flasher is dead. Little film can thing bottom right corner of your fuse block I think.
If you try to use signals with key on, you should be able to feel it clicking inside, or hear it, if good.

Cheap item at any part store. Simple unplug deal.
Don't confuse with one nearby for flashers, which you can check the same way.

Check your fuses first. Good luck.

i already replaced the flasher. no luck at first. then thought maybe it was loose so i bent the plugs slightly and they worked again, went to drive away from autozone and no signalss again this time it wasnt cuz of loose flasher. got home switched in the old flasher. they worked again for a minute again. the wires in the back of fuseblock are good. what else could it be?

could be the lever itself. my 00 jimmy has a simaliar problem. the swich is on it way out and if you hit a bump the relay clicks but none of the lights come on. it really isnt an issue now just a nusanse as the sound gets on my nurvs

Check the turn signal cam under the steeringwheel. I had a similar problem on my 79. replaced the cam and it is working to this day.
