| gauge help well i was trying to install a 160 theromostat and decided not to after talking to my brother who is against it. Anyway i must of screwed something up because now my temp gauge does not work. Also when I start the truck the fan runs even though the truck is cold. What is happening? Will the fan just continually run until I fix the gauge. |

| Sorry guys It is a GMC 1989 4X4 extended cab longbed 5.7tbi. Is it bad to drive it in the meantime.. I do not want it to overheat but at the same time the fan is running whenever the truck is on. Is it supposed to do this? I should also mention that my oil pressure guage quit working as well I did find a green wire under my hood that is severed. One end is connected to a white clip that has another wire in it and and connects to the fan. The other end of the severed green wire runs toward the firewall. It looks like the privious owner did something screwy here because there is another green wire that has what looks kind of like a small usb end to it? When I connect the severed wire nothing happens. When I connect the USB green wire to the bare green wire running towards the firewall nothing happens When I sitck the bare Green wire that is attached to the white clip into the usb looking green wire the temp guage reads max temp so it seems like my problem has something to do with this green wire. What is this USB looking end supposed to connect to. Maybe it came unpluged and i just cannot find where it is supposed to be plugged. If I could replug it and then connect the severed green wire that could fix it! I am not sure what wire controls the oil pressure guage. |

| if it is just a single green wire it could either be for the temp sensor which is located on the side of the driver side head close to the spark pulgs OR it could be for your horn but more than likely it is for your temp sensor. I would bet money there is no way your truck could overheat with a 160* thermostat from the factory they come with a 190*-195* so that means it is opening at 30* less of a temp than normal operation if anything your are overcooling your motor if there is such a thing

| oh yea forgot to tell you for some strange reason when I put a 190 in my truck the temp gauge was reading like 210*-220* so I put in the 160* thermostat and the gauge read 190*-195* anything over 205* makes your oil break down in less than a month robbing it of its lubrication properties

| I am worried that because the temp guage is not working that the fan will not kick in. Should I be worried about that? That is why I am concerned about the overheating |

| Perhaps there is no connection between the guage and the fan? |
