85 silverado/starting problems
Hey guys, new to this forum and in desperate need of help. My 305 silverado will start at times and runs perfect. Other times she will not start. When she won't start there is no spark to the plugs. Now here is what I have done. ( rebuilt the dist. completely, replaced the dist. components three times, swapped computer, check ign batt to dist and computer when she won't start and every time the voltage is good even while cranking, replaced timing gear and chain) At times I will go to start to no avail. Sometimes try a couple of hours later and she'll start and run great. Go out the next morning and she won't start. Sometimes it will be days too weeks before she'll start again. I also have checked all wires involved with the computer, dist and ign and all test good. Outside temp seems to have some effect as too when it quits starting, but she'll do the same in the summer months as well. Any suggestions? Joe

I,ve replaced the coil and mod three times. Fuel pump is new and good,no problem there. When she starts, I can get on down the road, kick in the four barrel and scoot. Funny thing is, it never stalls while driving.

Check for loose/dirty/broken ground wires between body and engine. Check also for defective ign. switch and defective/loose/dirty ign switch plug connector. You may be getting voltage at coil but not enough current. Just my guess.

thanks for info: I changed out the ign switch because it's the only thing I haven't changed. Seems to be better. I'm going to redo the grounds from body to engine and see if that helps. If she'll crank and run everyday for a couple of weeks, I might put a little faith in her and take a long drive.
