Yes I would power wash the top of the tank spotless if not all that dirt and shitt is gonna fall into the tank when you remove the snap ring and pump which will clog the new pump really fast. now are you sure it is a traditional snap ring with a split in the middle so you can expand it or is it a solid peice of metal with no breaks? if it is solid you can take it of by putting a flathead scewdriver on one of the three tabs and lightly tap it with a hammer and alternate between the three tabs dont just hit one to remove it make sure you hit all three equally to avoid damage

I will have to look to see if it is the 3 tab or a snap ring. I will look at that tonight, after cleaning the top of the tank. Thanks!

It is a snap ring and I found a snap ring pliers to remove that. Next challenge is getting the tool for the 2 quick disconnects on the tank lines.

Finished the job last night, complete with the ground strap reconnected. The truck fired up faster then it has in the past 50,000 miles and runs better. Thanks to all for the information and help available off of this forum, it saved me several hundred $$$ versus taking it to a shop.
