1995 K 1500 Cheyenne Key will not turn

I have a 1500 Cheyenne truck. It s my sons and you can put the key in the ignition and it will not turn. It is locked up! I am not on a hill and i tried to turn the steering wheel hard and nothing will release it and let the truck start. If I rock the key back and forth it will go counter clockwise every now and then.

What do i need to do to fix this issue, he cannot drive his truck.

Thanks

the locking mechanism will sometimes hangup in the steering column and makes it impossible to turn the key. i would look into that first. dont have a diagram to show you of it but will try and find one.

you can buy a steering wheel puller and a new ignition cylinder for about $30 bucks at a parts store sounds like ignition cylinder took a dump and you need to pull the steering wheel to change it out.

How do you pull the steering wheel off? I think there is an air bag in there? If you need my email to send me a diagram I will be glad to provide it to you.

Thanks

I cant find what fuse you need to pull but it is a must that you dissconnect power to the (SIR) air bag system before you take the steering wheel off. I'd look for a fuse that says SIR or air bag

Is there a way to get to the locking mechanism without pulling the steering wheel off?
