98 Transmission problems

so I just cleared 228000 miles, so maybe its just time for a new tranny?
the truck accelerates slowly! if I put my foot down to drop a gear, it won't do it, the revs stay low and nothing happens, if I let off on the gas a bit and let it accelerate over time, it can get up to freeway speeds. I'm lucky to reach 50 by the end of the on ramp.
Has anyone experienced this? I checked the fluids, they're OK.

Check your fuel filter as well as your air filters. Sounds silly, but this is one of the things that can rob your engine of horsepower. Also while your at it, check your oil as well. If and when you change it I'd invest in a KN oil filter and some Restore engine treatment, as well as some good high milage engine oil.

Im assuming your truck is a manual? Maybe it needs a clutch or pressure plate?

So it is an automatic. The reason I went to the Transmission so fast, is because thats pretty the only thing that hasn't been replaced, I put a new engine in 35K ago, I'm running synthetic oil, with regular changes.
The last time the fuel filter was changed was probably with the engine.

You need to change the fuel filter. Rule of thumb is every 15K miles. If it has been 35K plus it really needs to be changed.
