you can use what is called a "super single". I don't know if they are a common wheel for a stock application or if it will be a custom wheel...

I know you can run a 19.5 or 22.5 super single with the help of adapters (8 lug to 10 lug), but that route gets expensive..

I'm just asking -- I'm not saying!

What would happen if you mounted empty wheels inboard and normal tire/wheels outboard?

Obviously you'd lose the advantage of dual wheels but would it function as well as a normal pickup at that point?

In emergency situations the dual rear wheels can be run with a single wheel. No need to run just a wheel to take up space. Many times, many drivers have had to do this when spares have run out.
Looks real funny, but one tire and wheel will get you home.

On another note, a tandem axle trailer can also be run with three wheels. (provided weight will allow) Have done this a time or two.

Here is what Mr JW was talkin bout.
