Question 4.3 or 305 in a 4x4 from the factory???

this may be a dumb question but did GM ever use a 4.3L or a 305L in a full size 4x4 truck application.

I know the 4.3 and 305 came in 2WD applications but not sure about using one in a 4x4

Just really wondering if a 305 will hold up to 4x4 demands

One of the most successful 4x4 engines ever made was the AMC 4.0 L found in Jeeps. I've seen them pull not only themselves but other 4x4's out of trouble. So if a Jeep can pull itself and a full size out of the mud then I think a 4.3 or 5.3 could certainly take care of itself alone. I never saw a dealer order a full size 4x4 with a 4.3 but a customer could order one. I don't know if it is still true but custom ordering a truck was totally different than a car in that the customer could build any combination he wanted leaving off things like a bed, bumpers etc.

My 94 W/T 1500 4x4 came with a 4.3l but I swapped it for a decently built 350 that i still need to work out the fuel delivery problem. has to be the carb

Was there any concern with using the high pressure fuel pump from the FI 4.3 on the new 350 with a carb?

The fuel pump isn't a high pressure pump. Well for the holley it is but it puts out only 14 psi. (4.3 was TBI not CPI) but when I put a pressure regulator on it and set it for 7 psi it seems like it didnt get enough gas. Idle is inconsistnent and timing jumps around. I'm gonna buy a new carb and dial that in since the holley sat for a few years and dont want to tear it apart. I do have the fuel running from tank pump into the pump on the engine with the return line hooked up and put the regulator close to the carb. I think i'm going to tear the engine apart because the guy who built it wasn't a smart guy. I actually think the cam is off a few degrees

Log onto Autozone and look up a certian year GM truck and it will tell you what percent was V6 or V8
