Replaced the steering column and now truck won't stay running??

I replaced the steering column on my 2001 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 and now it won't stay running. It just starts and then dies.

Any ideas?

Do the electric devices that only work when the key is in the "Run" position fucntion normally? power windows etc? Do 2001's have the VATS chip in the ignition key?

if we go with the theory that the column removal was the cause, then i would have to say the ignition harness or your passlock. does your key have a chip on it?

Welcome to the site;
The relationship between the column and the stalling would lead me to believe that there is an electrical problem.
When exactly does this thing die? Does it fire then die as you let go of the key? Returning the key to the run position might cause the loss of 12 volts from the ignition switch, and you are losing spark.
A little better description might help.
For what reason did you decide to change the column? Is the column exactly the same? Could there be a wiring change that could have caused this problem?

I finally just put the ignition from the original column into the replacement column and now it works fine.
