1994 1500 won't start

1994 Chevy 1500 ext cab, 5.7

let me give a little backround:

changed oil and plugs before long trip hauling camper and ran fine, then wouldn't turn over at all last week, tested battery and wouldn't take a charge, so replaced. alternator wouldn't even show reading on diagnostic at auto zone, but engine died on disconnecting negative battery cable, so replaced alternator and serpentine belt.

pulled fine to destination, ran fine. got home, parked in front of the house to move the van and put the trailer away, then the truck turns and turns, but won't start.

I replaced the fuel filter. I replaced the relay. After I replaced the relay, the injectors are making a strange clicking/buzzing sound when I give it gas. Is that normal? I never noticed it before. Still won't start.

I assume it is the fuel pump itself, but thought I'd make sure that injector sound is normal and see if there is anything else to consider before I go dropping the tank for a new pump.

thanks!

When sitting in the drivers seat, door open and no radio, and you turn on key to "on", but do not turn it over, can you hear the fuel pump turn on? If so, that is not your problem. If not, you are right.... I do not know about the sound of the injectors, I have never actually listened myself.... But some of the other vetrans here may know the answer to that.

thanks. i just went out and turned the key on, listened. turned it back on a (probably to the amusement of my neighbors) and listened in the gas fill and underneath. tried a couple whaps with a rubber mallet, too. nothing. when I put a good amount of choke cleaner in, it starts momentarily, so I'm gonna drop the tank and try a new pump.

I just planned on going with the pump and filter, not the whole wiring harness, bracket, etc. ($60 versus $250). do you think that would be okay? thanks again for your input.

done

well, it was the fuel pump. got it replaced and runs like a champ. and only cost me about $58 with a new strainer, too.

man, that is a pain in the butt with half a tank of gas!

I did notice the strap in the front bending, twisting quite a bit while getting the big "T" bolt off. I'm kind of concerned that this weakened the heck out of that strap metal, but it seems okay... glad to be done with that job.

thanks for the advice.

yeah, I learned a lesson on that one. that's heavy as heck when you don't have a lift to put the truck in the air. working laying on the ground it is tough to get moved up and down.
