SilveradoTX is on a distinguished road
Just bought a 2007 Silverado 2500 HD Classic.

Just got my hands on a 2007 Classic Silverado 2500 HD. It's got the 6.0, 4.10s, limited slip and 5 speed manual tranny.

So far so good and I'm pretty surprised at the power. I've driven these quite a bit up til' now with just the auto but the manual, once you get the hang of it, makes getting out of the hole MUCH easier and quicker. Painting two black stripes starting out in 2nd gear is an afterthought.

The question I have for right now is who sources this 5 speed for Chevy and what can it handle power wise? I've been asking around but I can't get a straight answer.

Also, is there anything I can do to improve traction and wheel hop? I plan on adding a Radix intercooled SC pretty soon and I'm worried about tractability. I don't want to level or lower the truck if I can help it but right now I actually get a little wheel hop at the top of 3rd gear! I can only imagine what things will be like with another 100+ foot pounds of torque.

BTW, I'm new to the forums so greetings to all.

Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Don`t know about the trans. Axle hop? Stiffer shocks? Stiffer springs? Traction bars? With the mods you are planning I would think you should think of headers and free flow exhaust and bigger fuel pump. Good luck with it all.

Thanks Case. I don't plan on doing anything else power wise after the Radix install. I know it comes with bigger injectors but not sure about the fuel pump, will install that only if needed. I've got some ideas about what I'm going to do with the suspension but open to new ones. I want the truck as stock as possible aside from the SC and the only reason I'll mess with the suspension is to help the truck hook up better. I don't want to affect towing or load handling capabilities.

CharlyG will become famous soon enough
Dumb question from a newb. What does Classic mean? Does it refer to the pre 99 style?

It's a transitional title. 2007 is the first year for the latest new body style/chassis Silverados and Sierra but... Chevy still produced the old body style/chassis as well in 2007 and those are designated "Classics". So, mine is a 2007 but it's not the new body style/chassis. Hope that clears things up. One way you can tell a Classic HD is the tow hooks in the front. As far as I know the 2006 and earlier old body style trucks didn't have them, only the 2007 Classics.

Ok. My truck is sporting a New Venture Gear 4500 5 speed.

Seems to be a pretty tough transmission, looking into that now.

As far as I know it's torque rating is rated (conservatively) at 450 foot pounds of torque.

This was used extensively in Dodge trucks as well behind the diesel so hopefully that's a good thing.

for wheel hop i would just go with a traction bar. it will still allow you to load up the truck and not worry about bottoming out. i have seen guys using the airride load leveler as a type of traction devise but i dont know the downsides to it. hope this helps... joe
