temp gauge

I got a 1989 chevrolet k-1500 truck with a 4.3L engine. Temp gauge is kinda screwy. It will work some days, and some days it won't work at all. I've replaced the sensor before but it hasn't done anything. Wire does't appear to have any shorts or anything. Could the gauge itself be no good?

IT's the old style gauges. I had the dash apart before and they "plug" into the dash board. not sure how to check ground on this. any hints??

Thrid,

I would install a direct connection mechnical coolant gauge on the truck until you get the issue solved.

Quickest way to lose a good engine is lose of oil pressure.
Second quickest way to lose a good engine is lose of coolant.

Its not worth taking a chance if it's a good truck with good motor.

I like stewart warner 270 degree dial gauges, good quality and they look good, you know what going on up there with them.
