04 silverado misfire??? 2004 chevrolet silverado 2x4 4.3L. Engine light comes on & off. Taken it to the mechanic and the code reader throws a code saying that a cylinder is misfiring. Mechanic has replaced wires, plugs, etc... and has reset the code, however it keeps coming back all the time. The truck doesnt work bad or anything at all, just this stupid code keeps getting thrown. any ideaS?

| sounds like your computer is going bad. my 03 it would run when it wanted to and when it quit running i had to take it in to the dealer and they had to reprogram the computers with new updated software and charged me 250 to do that

Does the code suggest which Cyl is misfiring? If so, swap your coils, and if you throw a code again and it is the differant cylinder where you put the coil, then you know it is the coil that is misfiring the cylinder.

this is a company truck that I drive occasionally when I have to go out on the road, so i can't try any of these suggestions unfortunately lol. However, we have gotten the mechanic to check it out the last few oil changes and he seems stumped. Maybe next oil change I'll mention this to him.

That sucks, but the good news is, it isn't your bill. I only made the suggestion because I used to have a 98 Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition with the COP (Coil Over Plug) Coils. And that is what I did to find out that yes it was the coil that was bad. I do not tell to many people I drove Fords for about 3 years because I got pissed off at GM financing and Ford financing thinks I am gold so I get really good rates on Used Certified Fords. But I am back to GM again using a Credit Union this time. GM and Ford are totally differant breeds and totally differant quirks, but they do share some of the OBD ll diagnostics.
