Transmission smoke from tailpipe?

I have an 89 Chevy S-10 4x4 with 4.3 and Auto trans. I bought the truck about 4 months ago, runs great, but i noticed the tranny acting funny. I checked the fluid and it was just about 3 quarts low. I filled it up to correct level, now, when i take off from a light, it emits a thick cloud of smoke from the tailpipes (blueish color).Could this be why the fluid was so low? I know it's not oil, cause it did'nt do this before i filled the trans fluid up. How is this happening? what could be wrong?

What type of transmission do you have.
Transmissions equiped with a vacuum modulator are know to go bad, and leak transmission fluid into the engine via the vacuum line, and cause "white" smoke..
This is a good possibility.

Same thing happen to me once and it was what 75K30 said. Welcome to the club and howdy from TEXAS. You see all those green boxes below 75K30 name it's because he's one smart cookie and were proud to have him here with us he's another one of my hero's.

Howdy from Ohio all! Thank you guys so much for your input. I will change the modulator, it's a lot cheaper than a tranny.
I will repost the results.
