steering column problem

I have a problem that just started after putting a 2 wheel drive cab on 4x4 frame. Just rebuilt motor went to crank engine key goes over real easy, no power . also will not go out of park had to use a starter button and jump wire from hei to fire engine any pointers as to what went wrong on key would be helpful or where i could get a good illustration of a chevy steering column before takeing it apart. i understand they can be tough thankx frankd
