Truck is smoking + 1 other question

Hi, i bought this truck awhile back and haven't driven it much since i've had it. When i test drove it i did notice it smoked a little at start up but cleared up after it ran a few minutes. I figured it was probably the valve seals and being it was a good price, i couldn't pass it up. I changed all the fluids in it and drove it about a hundred miles. I went on vacation for a week and when i came back i checked the oil and it showed a quart low. I topped off the oil and started it up. It started smoking at first but this time it didn't clear up. It now smokes all the time but it doesn't lose any power and runs great. Theres no leaks so it has to be burning it. Does this sound like the valve guides/seals or ring blow by. My truck is a 86 but the motor is a 81 305 with unknown mileage and no emissions. We don't need emissions where i live. The smoke is like grayish white in color. Theres no water in the oil or other signs that it's a head gasket.

Second question:
Will a 250 inline 6 cylinder mate up the 400 automatic tranny thats in this truck now. Thanks in advance
