 |  1998 chevy ac clutch wont engage we need serious help!! my boyfriend has a 1998 chevy 1500, the ac clutch wont engage on its own, if he taps on it or run the rpms up it will engage but once it disengages its done. im pretty sure the pressure switches have been replaced, and some sensore not sure, but i know today we replaced the clutch and it worked a few times on its own on hi, med and low but then we left it running for awhile and when we checked on it, it wasnt working again... Please help....... |

| more than likely the refrigerant needs recharged, can buy a kit at a part store for 20-30 bucks. if its that low get a kit that contains oil!! |

 | It sounds like a low freon problem......but, Check the connections and wires from the switch on the dryer to the compressor. sometimes they get loose or damaged and break teh contact. A plug might be getting frayed as one person found out
