99 1500 caliper sticking

Took my brothers truck to tow my camper up north and the front driver caliper stuck after a few minutes and a few miles down the road. I replaced the caliper (dual piston caliper $65) and it still does it. I was told the rubber line might me cracked or peeled on the inside but havent replaced that yet.. Has anyone had this problem before. Just the drivers side does it so it kinda rules out the master cylinder. could it be the porportioning valve also?

Yes sir. Its the rubber line. Of all my years working on vehicles never seen anything so strange, but I had the same issue just 2 weeks ago on my 80 GMC and that is what it was. Funny thing was, the line appeared to be in good shape. But I guess the inners tear apart, fluid will go one way, but will not let it back up working like a one way valve. Replace the line, problem solved. I have a thread posted about it, something titled 80 GMC Brake ....

When you replaced the caliper did you flush the line? Brake fluid gets like molasses over time, you need to bleed it till the fluid is clear and the pedal go down easy (if its a manual bleed with another person). If this is the case then flush all the lines.

Thanks for the replies. I havent had a chance to work on it yet but do have the line since that is what I thought the problem was. I just wanted some of your opinions on the matter. I'll let you all know what the outcome was. Thanks

Always replace the line first...its the cheapest, then the caliper if needed.
