91 s10 blower not working, 4.3 v6,4wd I have been searching this forum for leads to my problem, but I have not found anything directly related. My s10 blower does not work. It did not make a noise or anything, one day it just stopped working. I first checked the 25a A/C htr fuse and it was good. Read in a thread to try replacing the blower motor relay. Replaced the relay and the fuse blew when switched on. Put the old relay back on, fuse held but still not working. Tried a new fan speed control switch with old relay, did not work, fuse still held. Put the new relay in with the new switch, fuse blew. The only constant so far is that with the new relay, the fuse blows. I will try replacing the blower motor resistor this evening to see if it does the trick. I was told that typically when that goes, one or two os the speeds will stop working when it goes bad. Since that did not happen, that was one of the last items to try replacing. If not, I guess the last resort is to replace the blower motor. I have been told that the motor will whine etc when it goes out so that is the last thing I will look at. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on or am I going at it the wrong way.

pull the connector off the blower motor and see if you have power. with the meter, see if the voltage changes when you chance speeds.make sure you have the right relay.

I checked the voltage under 4 different scenario's, new resistor/new relay, old resistor/old relay, new resistor/old relay, and old resistor/new relay. Under the new/new scenario voltages were 11.4, 11.4, 11.1 and fuse blew on high. Under the old/old scenario the voltages were 9, 8.9,8.9, 8.9. Under the old/new the voltages were 9.5, 9.3, 9.5, and fuse blew on high. Under the new/old scenario the voltages were 9,9,9,9. Neither scenario produced much variation in voltage although both scenarios that the new relay was used the fuse blew with the fan on high. Not sure if the voltages are supposed to change. Thinking about that, I did not use the new switch in any of these. I assume that the nest thing to try is to change out the blower motor. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

see if you can spin the motor freely. if you have voltage then its probally the motor.take it out a bench test it.

| Maybe its as simple as the blower motor has burned up. Pretty easy to replace just about 6 screws. If you have voltage at the blower connector then replace the sob.

Took the motor out last night. Not an easy task. The two bottom screws were hard to get a socket on. Removed the coolant resevoir which allowed better access to them but needed to get a swivel adapter for the socket wrench to make it bite. Motor blades spin freely so I suspect that it is the motor being burned up, but there is no apparent smell. Local parts house will have replacement motor this afternoon. If it is not this, I am out of ideas. I will post how it turns out. Thanks for the ideas.

Got the replacement motor last night and put it in. Problem solved. Looking back on this process it would have made sense to work from the problem backwards. None of the threads that I looked at mentioned this, especially if the motor did not whine or smoke before it stopped. Nonetheless it was an educational experience. I spent roughly $55 for all of the parts, motor, resistor, switch, and relay plus about 5-6 hrs. Hopefully this will help someone else. Thanks for all of the input.
