Plug wires

Can plug wires need replacing after only 47k miles?
The problem I'm having is that on take off, my truck falls on it's face.
Hesitates for a bit then it runs fine. I've changed plugs and fuel
filter but it still does it. Any other recommendations? All I can think
of is plug wires. Thanks.

what year model is the truck?? i dont think wires would be a problem if it only misses out on acceleration.

Yeah I agree if it stumbles on take off but then smoothes out sounds like a dirty fuel filter to me! Try replacing your filter if the problem still exists then you may need to look at a fuel pump! Bad wires normally just cause a dead cylinder which would cause hesitation thoughtout the rpm range! Good luck man!

I don't get a check engine light so I assume there wouldn't be any codes.
It's a 1996 K3500. 454 engine. I reached the same conclusion a little while ago about the plug wires. It's like it completely dies, not just misses.
I replaced the fuel pump about 2 years ago. I guess it could be that but I wouldn't think so. Any other ideas? I'd hate to have to take it to a shop.

Well you could go out and get a fule pressure gauge and hook it up to see what you FP looks like do you have any vacuum leaks anywhere check all your hoses. I'm not sure if it's true or not but I heard somewhere that the fuel evap or charcoal canister could cause hesitation so maybe check there for leaks does it do it when the truck is in park or is it just when it under torque?

It only does it when in gear. In park it's fine.
I have checked the vacuum hoses several times. Unless I missed one somewhere.

spray some water on it and see if it acts up, could be a wire acting up when the motor shifts on the mounts

That's a good thought that I hadn't considered. I'll look into it. Thanks.

Dually,

This may be elementary, but I would try buying gas at another station, buy high test and also add 1 can of seafoam to the tank.

My old 350 engine likes a can of seafoam in the tank from time to time. I change fuel filter every 15K miles.

On an older 350 engine we had, it would stumble, we change the plugs and it ran great.

With the new engines it can be so many things, may have to get the codes read at the GM shop.
