sounds easy enough. One final question thoughh; to jump it, can i use 2 paper clips (ie. one for terminal A, one for Terminal B), or should I use the same clip for both terminals (just bend it so it fits in both terminals).

Bend it to fit both.

update!

ok, checked the cap and rotor, everything looked good. plugs & plug wires are good as well. Did the scan, got 2 codes; 32 & 44. Looked them up in my hayes manual, and this is what they say:

32 - EGR failure. I always seem to have this code. I've replaced the EGR twice in the last 4 years and it still throws that code out once in awhile.

44 - Lean Exhaust. Says to replace the O2 sensor. Could this be the source of my problems?

your EGR may be stuck partially open , this would account for the lean condition also.

I think a scan might be more beneficial then a code read as you said you have a reoccurring egr fault

I agree. I would pull the EGR valve and clean it, clear your codes and see if you get the codes again.

ok, thats worth a try I guess. Is it common for these egr valves to stick open? LIke I said earlier, I've replaced it twice the last 4 or 5 years. it works good but after 1/2 a year you see the SES light start to come on once in awhile. The truck has never worked bad though. To clean it up is to remove the carbon so the diaphragm moves in and out again right?

just to throw something out there. did it actually say to replace the 02 sensor or did it say that it is showing low or high circuit voltage. neither one mean to replace it. it is a possibility that it is faulty but not that it is your exact problem. a bad o2 sensor would cause a richer mixture if i am not mistaken.

no, didnt say to replace o2 sensor, just that the exhaust is lean. I'm speculating that the exhaust was lean due to the EGR valve not functioning properly.

very good possibility. you said you replaced the EGR once or twice already. did you put the right size washers back underneath it??
