Exclamation Acceleration Hesistation

Hi everyone,

I have a 1989 c/k1500 4x4 truck, 4.3 L, 5 speed. The truck really seems to be stumbling bad while accelerating. IF you feather the throttle though, it doesn't seem to do it. It just started doing this today and the last time I was driving it the SES light came on. I had something similar happen to me earlier and it turned out that the rotor contact was carboned up bad. I had an dist cap and rotor kicking around, so i cleaned it up and put them on and it worked fine. It's dark out now, so I'm going to check that possibility out tomorrow in the daylight. Is there anything else that you think it could be? I'd like to retrieve the code it's giving me. Can I jump the computer data link using some hairpins or paper clips or something so it will flash me the code?

While its dark out you might want take a spray bottle and mist your spark plug wires. If you see a light show that could be your problem.

Your truck is OBD1 so you should be able to pull codes with the paperclip no problem. Do a search of this forum for instructions. You can also go to www.troublecodes.net for what the codes mean. Good luck.

After jumping the two, turn key to on, DO NOT START. The service engine soon light will flash. Trouble code 12 will flash three times. One flash, pause, two flashes. This happens three times, then if there are any other codes, it will flash them. On my truck it flashed five times, pause, four times. The code was 54. It did this three times. Then back to 12, then 54 again. I read the code in the manual. It said, fuel pump relay low voltage, check the fuel pump relay and circuit for shorts or damage. Of course I changed the relay and it didn't fix my problem. Is this wildly known? This is the first I have heard of this. Any experiences or comments of how to use this to get the maximum info??
Thats how ya do it.
